Purpose of the forum
Like many of you I visit a few popular web forums and mainly lurk, reading the posts that are interesting to me. There's some really good info to be found, along with some really bad info, and the ever present replies from paying sponsors or their "fans".
Much of the info given is meant to steer the poster, usually someone asking about buying night vision, towards making a purchase of a certain device from a certain seller. I find this very annoying at times. I don't fault them for it though because after all the forum is taking their money in exchange for access to their members.
Unfortunately this creates biased replies and info. The worst though are the members who pretty much represent the sellers because they've gotten sweetheart deals or are in some way associated with them but not openly so. Occasionally someone calls out the BS which is refreshing.
I always thought it'd be awesome if there was a free and neutral night vision forum that wasn't owned by the big web conglomerate companies. So, I saw there was a forum app I could add to this site and I said "F it, let's do it!" and here we are. If this forum experiment works out, great. If it doesn't, that's cool too. Maybe I'll just post stuff for people to read on their own.
Our introduction to members
"Nitewalker" consists of my wife and myself. Our story on the surface I'll admit sounds very cheesy and fake but I promise it isn't.
We absolutely love the outdoors and spending as much time as possible in it away from cities big or small, and away from people. About 4 years ago we made the decision to buy night vision. This was after several different incidences while we were camping. The most memorable being a late night encounter with a mountain lion while sleeping in a ground tent. We wanted to be able to protect ourselves from animals whether 4 or 2 legged. When you're in the boonies you have to fend for yourself.
I didn't know anything about night vision and had no idea how much stuff was out there for sale. It is very confusing to the uninitiated. I started cheap with gen 1. It sucked of course. Tried gen 2. Also sucked. Bit the bullet and bought a new gen 3 PVS-14. Of course it was awesome and I went down the rabbit hole.
"Nitewalker" was born originally with the idea to start an online store to sell gen 3 night vision to outdoor enthusiasts like my wife and I. We figured there were enough middle aged outdoorsy types who'd respond to our messaging and see how awesome it would be to add gen 3 to their outdoor gear load out.
We started doing videos showing gen 3 because when we looked for videos before buying our PVS-14, we only found tactical type videos that turns off most outdoorsy "non-tactical" people. We didn't do it to make money as income but rather to make just enough and get dealer pricing to support my growing night vision hobby. Well, it turns out that outdoorsy "non-tactical" folks just can't wrap their head around buying a $2-$3k gen 3 PVS-14 much less duals or a BNVD. Duh, right?
So, we switched gears to remove our storefront on the site, keep doing videos because we really like doing them, and keep the website going. If a time comes later to reopen the storefront then we'll do so. Honestly, it's a major pain in the ass selling gen 3 with all of the scammers and overseas douchebags trying to buy it. Our hats are off to you folks who do it for a living and put up with these assholes.
About myself (Mr Nitewalker)
I grew up with guns and love them. I'm an unashamed 2nd amendment true believing deplorable. I was in EMS and law enforcement for a period of my life. At my day job and elsewhere I spend at minimum 15-30 hours each week surrounded by people handling and/or shooting firearms. It's awesome.
About my better half (Mrs Nitewalker)
She’s been with me for 23 years and I converted her from the beginning to the lifestyle. I'm extremely blessed that she supports my gun & night vision hobbies and that she enjoys it also. I know many guys who aren't so lucky. Within reason of course. I've accepted the fact she's never gonna agree to those dream GPNVG's.
We both strongly believe in preparedness and consider our night vision gear to be a crucial part of our resources.
We enjoy providing information to others about our experience with night vision so they can make better informed decisions.
